On Thursday, July 18, 2019, MSN-Life Style posted an article on their website titled, “The Best-Reviewed Doctor in Every State.” The article goes on to make a connection between physicians and where they practice, and specifically, at which hospital they practice. “When you have an emergency, you don’t want good healthcare, decent healthcare or so-so healthcare. You want – no need – the very best. That’s why knowing which doctor is the best is so important. And where do the best doctors work? At the best hospitals.”
The article continues, “And we have the best reviewed ones right here. Healthgrade.com - the ratings website which ‘helps consumers and providers make meaningful connections’ - recently announced their Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award, ‘which recognizes hospitals for their excellent performance in safeguarding patients from serious, potentially preventable complications during their hospital stay.’ Those awarded are in the top 10 percent of hospitals (highlight added) in the country in terms of patient safety and experience, with data compiled from watchdog databases and patient surveys. Click through to find your state, so you know exactly where to go the next time you need the best in care.”
Upon “clicking” on MSN’s Healthgrades.com link and scrolling down to the state of Kansas, there were seven (7) total hospitals recognized throughout Kansas. Non-Wichita facilities included Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Providence Medical Center and St. Luke’s South Hospital. Three (3) hospitals in Wichita, namely, Kansas Heart Hospital, Wesley Medical Center and Kansas Spine Hospital were recognized. It is noteworthy that both Kansas Heart Hospital and Kansas Spine Hospital have had executive leaders with tenures exceeding fifteen years, providing long term strategic direction and continuity of excellence.
Dr. Greg Duick, President and Chairman of Kansas Heart Hospital (“KHH”), stated that “proportionately speaking, for the population size of Kansas, it is truly remarkable for seven hospitals to be recognized for their excellence in providing patients high quality and outstanding safety.” He further stated, “A few years ago, Jeff Korsmo, a former CEO of Ascension – Via Christi, announced that safety was the strategic objective for Ascension Via Christi in his yearly address to the public at large. These comments and Healthgrades’ commitment to provide such data driven information is a step forward in transparency and best serves all patients and consumers in the state of Kansas. Most importantly, it recognizes the efforts of our outstanding physicians who practice at KHH and our dedicated employees.”
