A TIME TO REMEMBER, THE 2014 WICHITA HEART BALL

The 20th Annual Wichita Heart Ball was held at the Drury Hotel in downtown Wichita on Saturday evening, February 15th. The Wichita Heart Ball is the signature fundraising event of the Sedgwick County division of the American Heart Association. Tuxedos, black ties and evening gowns filled the grand ballroom. Jay Prater, meteorologist, and Susan Peters, news anchor, both from Channel 10 hosted the event. A live auction as well as a silent auction raised money to support the ongoing educational and research efforts of our local heart association.
Twenty-four (24) sophomore high school “Sweethearts” were presented to the audience as their fathers proudly walked them down the aisle to center stage. The “Sweethearts” program was started by Peggy Duick, wife of Dr. Duick, in 2000. The program encourages young women to get involved in service to the community, learn about heart disease and fundraising while at the same time having the opportunity to experience fellowship with girls from different high schools and backgrounds throughout the Wichita area.
The first annual Heart of Wichita Award was presented by Karen Cox, Chairman of the 2014 Wichita Heart Ball, to Greg and Peggy Duick in recognition of their personal and professional contributions to the Wichita community as well as their many years of service and corporate support of the Sedgwick County Heart Association. “Peggy and I are most appreciative of this award and realize that so many have helped us along the way with their efforts and support,” said Dr. Duick.
