The American Heart Association recognizes employers as Fit-Friendly Companies for creating a culture of physical activity in the workplace. Companies are rewarded for their progressive leadership and for highlighting their concern for their staff.
Adult Americans spend most of their waking hours at work — many of them while sitting at a desk. This makes them vulnerable to health risks associated with inactive lifestyles. Studies suggest that by starting a worksite physical activity program and promoting a culture of activity, you can increase productivity, reduce absenteeism, lower turnover, and reduce healthcare costs.
Besides benefiting companies, a healthier workplace helps employees live healthier, longer lives.
To receive this award KHH submitted an application to the American Heart Association indicating what we do to support healthier life styles for our employees. This includes holding an annual 12-week Wellness Program to assist employees with losing weight, increasing physical activity and eating healthy. An AHA expert panel reviews the applications and awards recognition to the companies. KHH was awarded with the Gold Award in years 2007 – 2011.
