GREGORY F. DUICK MD, FACC, President, Chairman, Co-Founder 1996-Present, CEO 1999-2003


A native of Skokie, Illinois Dr. Duick is a graduate of Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois and graduated from Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine-Chicago in 1972. He completed his postgraduate medical internship, internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the Los Angeles County /USC Medical Center. He and his wife, Peggy, moved to Wichita in 1977 to begin private practice and they have two grown married children. He is post-Chairman of the Department of Cardiology at Via Christi at St. Francis, 1979 -1999, after which he co-founded Kansas Heart Hospital on February 15th, 1999. He retired from the clinical practice of cardiology on December 3rd, 2010 and continues full time administrative duties at Kansas Heart Hospital. He was previously CEO from 1999 to February, 2003.

THOMAS L. ASHCOM MD, PhD, FACC, Chief Executive Officer, 2004-Present


Dr. Ashcom grew-up in Sharon, Pennsylvania and obtained his undergraduate degree from Penn State University and his PhD in physiology from Penn State University in 1979. He continued advanced studies in medicine and graduated from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, in 1983. Post-graduate training in internal medicine and cardiology was obtained through the military at Brooke Army Medical Center. In 1993, he joined Cardiovascular Consultants of Kansas and began his private practice career which he currently continues in addition to his CEO duties. He served as Chairman of Internal Medicine at Via Christi at St. Francis, 1996-2000, and on February 3rd, 2004 he was appointed CEO of Kansas Heart Hospital. He and his wife, Lily, have one married daughter.

JOYCE HEISMEYER RN, BS, MNSc, Chief Operating Officer, 2011-Present


With the retirement of Mr. Lynn Jeane who served as COO from 1999 to October, 2011, Ms. Joyce Heismeyer was appointed COO on October 3rd, 2011. A native of Hutchinson, Kansas, she began her career in nursing as a surgical RN and nurse manager of surgery ultimately rising to Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Officer at Northwest Health System, 1995-2005, in Springdale, Arkansas. She assumed the position of Chief Operating Officer at Northwest Health System in October, 2005 until she accepted the position of CEO at Allen County Hospital, Iola, Kansas in April, 2008 through September, 2011 where she lead the development campaign, planning and funding for the new Allen County Hospital. She and her husband, Fred, reside in northwest Wichita.

STEVE SMITH BBA, CPA, Chief Financial Officer, 1998-Present


Raised in Derby, Kansas, Steve Smith graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in Business Administration and Accounting. He worked as an Accounting Manager at Physicians Corporation of America prior to joining the CPA firm of KPMG in Wichita. After a number of years at KPMG he joined Thorn Americas and worked as the Manager of Mergers and Acquisitions. In August, 1998 Steve joined Kansas Heart Hospital as its original Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in charge of developing and managing the business office, billing and collections, laboratory and pharmacy, information technology (IT), human resources as well as assuming financial responsibilities for four corporations closely held or aligned with Kansas Heart Hospital. He and his wife, Michelle, along with their children reside in Derby, Kansas.
