Stephanie Costello, a native of Pratt, Kansas and a long time KHH employee, works as a medical records coder, and, in addition, she serves as the Wichita Red Cross liaison for blood donation drives at KHH. She has coordinated blood drives at KHH for the past 4-5 years. “It is something I was, initially, asked to help out with and now has become a part of my routine.” KHH has scheduled blood drives quarterly at its northeast hospital location.
Jennifer Keller is Program Manager of Communications at the Mid-America Blood Services Division of the American Red Cross located in Wichita. “On Friday, November 30th, 2012, the Red Cross will hold a blood drive at Kansas Heart Hospital Conference Room between noon and 4:00 PM.” She added, “It is very important to support blood drive donations during the holiday season, since many college-age donors are on vacation as well as family donors which decreases the donor pool. Additionally, east coast donations have been disrupted by hurricane Sandy.”
The Red Cross depends on time, money and blood to help those in need. For instance, the Wichita-based Red Cross supplies blood and platelet products to 107 Kansas hospitals. For individuals who can’t donate, they can volunteer as drivers to bring life-giving blood to hospitals around the state of Kansas. During this holiday season, the Red Cross is sponsoring a Holiday Giving Campaign which includes signing a Christmas card for members of our military or buying a gift through the Red Cross holiday catalog.
